Bragging Behaviours

Choosing teams in real life is a lot different than choosing than choosing teams in a gym class or sides on a chess board!

--Bragging Beahviours--

The originality revealed, the curses of eternity over flowing through the creeks of desires, forcing continuity to prevail, hindering the gains of successful changes in environment.

That was intense!! Uh!

An interview, and lots of lessons!

I had recently gone for an interview that would literally hand me a gun and a uniform landing me somewhere near the national frontiers. Being a girl, I had the advantage of doing just paper work and stuff sitting in the capital and not going on field. I was very excited about it and was loving the idea of getting such a job.
I met lots of cadets wanting to join the same, there were girls and guys from all over the country, from places I had taken to be far isolated to reach. They all inspired me, every night we used to meet and talk and share how each of us lived their lives, how hard they had been trying for this interview, the type of cultures and families we hailed from and stuff.
We had to undergo lots of exams and tests conducted as a part of the interview which had elimination at each stage. They tested us for our analytic ability and speed, thought processing, language, general awareness, confidence, IQ and the most dangerous one- psychology.

Test 1- Logical Analysis and Vocab (Maths and Language Test)- I got through!
Test 2- A Situation Reaction Test (Psychology Test)- I filled it anyhow!
Test 3- Tasks (Where they test your confidence, planning & truthfulness in the form filled filled above)- I did it!
Test 4- A Race (Check for everything)- Out team was unimpaired, unhurt and stood first!
Test 5- Personal Interview (You GK and stuff is hanged here)- That was good!
Test 6- A conference (Where a board of 12 tries to sue you for nothing)- No words!

We were being noticed throughout our period of 5-day stay, all our actions were being analysed and compared to our written tests. We were being checked for our originality and even the slightest mismatch would mean our names being crossed off the list.

I realized this interview wasn't a test for perfection or for an A++ grade in academics.
It was about your personality and how well you know it.
It was about being right about one's own self. It was not about being a coward and showing off your bad confidence, it was about the knowing it and writing down the same.
It was about team spirit, and not faking your affection for your fellow contestant.
It was about facing yourself!

After the interview, I realized I spent no time to know myself, I couldn't fake myself at the interview, I knew I'd get caught. I had to guess hard what I was actually like and then write it down. Though I managed to be right in more than 80% of the times, it was a difficult job guessing my own self and then proving it right.

I had learnt something new there, I had to complete the task of knowing myself deep inside. I had learnt that I shouldn't underestimate anybody, unless I knew what they were made of, also, I could never get to know of that, everybody's unique and is a specialist in something in their own way.

I had to be confident of my strengths and be aware of my weaknesses and work towards them, only then I could count on my dreams!!!

Turn Foodies on @ GVK One!

As you enter, the place confuses you of the locale, whether you really stand in the middle of a lamp lit jungle
or
is it just another brilliant architect at his best!

The place had almost all kinds of kitchens flaunting their food not only with deliciously tongue tickling, mouth watering items and whiffer alerting aroma but also with their mind boggling titles.

I walked down the hall as I read "Tibbs Frankie", which claimed to serve the original frankie of Bombay.
There was "Gongura", inviting us to experience the real taste of rice and pachadi from South India.
Then came the "Oriental Express", where the damn tasty continental palettes were being served.
The best was "Health Lovers", that served something similar to the Subway, freshly cut vegetables and spring fuits and hot baked buns.
For the roadside food lovers and real desi chaat lovers there was "Chaatchatpatt".
Icecreams, cold candies and milk shakes of all flavours, toppings and nuts pulled me to "Cherry Cool".
The sea food lovers missing Long John Silver from the USA or the Ambot Tik of Goa must rush into "Prawn Crunch".
Then came the "Nizamiyat", which served the real Hyderabadi Food including the Hyderabadi Biryani and the Zafrani pulao.
The "Banana Leaf" flaunted the royal taste of the traditional Andhra Meals served on banana leaves.
The Delhi style of chole kulche and punjabi roti daal paneer and lassi were brought together at "The Dhaba".
The Italian, Japanese or the Mumbaiyya style of sizzlers delivered aroma that made you chase the "Sizzling Joe".

After taking a complete round and acquainting myself to the place I knew I had a tough choice to make, eating in a short span of 10 T's ain't an easy job... Ha!
I jumped into Tibbs, grabbed that nice hot roll and hurried off, promising myself, I'd land there some other day, some other time, probably with lots of time next...

Till then, ciao... Happy Me, Happy Eating!

Thanks For The Memories

How quickly a moment of love can be snapped away to a moment of hate. One comment is enough to steal it all away. Of how love and war stand upon the very same foundations. How, in my darkest moments, my most fearful times, when faced, became my bravest. When feeling at your weakest you end up showing more strength, when at your lowest are suddenly lifted above higher than you've ever been. They all border one another, those opposites, and how quickly we can be altered. Despair can be altered by one simple smile offered by a stranger; confidence can become fear by the arrival of one uneasy presence.

Everything is one the verge, always brimming the surface, a slight shake, a tremble sends things toppling. How similar emotions are.

Delhi- Gone With The Wind!

Winters again, and I was back where I was the same time of the year; I could sniff through the same dense fog, I could feel the same cold chill of the wind, and the ground seemed to welcome my arrival as I got down the train. Delhi was just the same, I wanted to feel it warming and cuddling me into it's arms as before, I had just one day.

When I was there, I wanted to carry the city with me, collect as many memories as I could from the lovely place. I wanted to feel it's warmth and love, meet my beloved ones and party just the same with my friends.

All of a sudden as all those moments flashed before me when I realized how insane and ruthless can our hearts be:

As I walked those lanes, traveled in trams and went past those doors, I knew they knew me no more. I walked past people I never saw before, at the diner there was nobody to wave to and share my table, my classroom seemed to be ghastly and I wanted to run away from there, my friends, they were all gone and if not gone they surely intend to.

I had been misguided into the faking warmth of the city.

The metro, the people, the roads, the hangouts, all seemed to be familiar yet they gazed a stranger's look at me.

I boarded the train and my heart that had eventually got to speed of beating itself to death began to rest, I sighed with relief as I heard the train ram it wheels away from the city and as the wind blew over my face cutting through my hair, so did my obscure fears subdue.

I could feel the emotional upheaval; I loved to be back to the capital and longed to stay there when I landed but by the time twas evening and it was time to leave, I was happy I was done with it so soon.

Now I knew I never belonged there. I had forgotten to find peace and love within myself and I expected a faking city to give it to me. How stupid I had been, but not anymore!

I was appeased, it was finally getting off me, Delhi was finally gone with the wind!

It's Meowing

Back home, I wondered if I had anything else to do apart from studying, studying and studying!

I've always craved for a pet, it could have been a dog or a cat or even a golden canary (I know what you're thinking but it's the bird that I'm talking about, not the drink! ;)
But mom!! She was always speculative of the animals I brought home, and somehow she was successful in sending them back to their habitat, no matter whether I picked them up dying or rescued them from the animal bullies, once they got fine, mom was sure I led them back to their 'family'.

Meowwww! That's how it went for an hour when I realized that somewhere a poor lil kitten needed help.
I searched the whole place till I found it sitting under the water tank on my roof top! How did it reach so high up there? It looked weak and scared, that poor thing must have thought- oh yeah, come bully me you too!

I got a bowl of nice warm milk and pushed it towards him, I knew it was a 'him', and then starting walking around pretending I hadn't noticed it was there. Slowly the thing crawled out and began to lick the bowl clean.

Within minutes it was running around my feet, but the moment I let out my hand it went running away. It was scared and so was I.

Another day, another bowl of milk, and it went on like this till we became friends. Every afternoon was our time, The Zenny Catty Hour at 4, I'd rub it's back and let it lick my paws, wash it under the tap and then play!

It has been more than a fortnight and we are friends now.
And I hope to bring it home soon, provided both Mommy and Catty allow each other come closer.

I now something else too to worry about, my smart catty!

Well, can we adopt cats? I wanna name him too... :)

Be Me Or Not To Be Me?

"Live for yourself, not for the world",

that's what they all say.

But somehow, I always find myself giving a lot of importance to the people around me, I keep pondering over what they think of me, and how well I've been able to impress them.
And hence, I've been thinking a lot lately about the decisions I make.
What do people think of me when they see me? Do they see a woman of integrity, or just a goofy kid with a YouTube account?
Why do I hold this cowardice when it comes to standing firm in who I am and who I choose to follow?
Is it the fear of rejection, or the innate defensive reaction to attack?

I haven't the slightest.
Every action I take affects how others visualize me.
This isn't to say that everyone's opinions of me are what's important.
But certainly, I should be living up to a specific standard. If I'm not meeting that standard, then I need to rethink my decision making process.
Still, in the coming weeks, I'm going to try and make my true-self more apparent to those around me, instead of compromising my values for the sake of conforming. I hope everyone will respect that choice.

It's A Conspiracy! Ha!

Monotonous

Doing the last check of the night, I go through my several different internet-social mediums: Facebook, Gmail, Blogger, Yahoo, Twitter, Youtube. Always in this order, though depending on my current position, one or two of these may be exempted due to deletion and/or neglect.

This is the routine. I wonder how I ever managed without these. Then, I wonder why I believe it's essential to my functionality. When will I realize the destructive nature of monotony?

There are a few things more excruciating than nothing.

However, something new has caught my attention, even though at the apex of it all, it's not the only thing, and that's most upsetting. Is it an instinct of survival? Has my mind created the desires and illusions out of pure inactivity?

I check it all again, before going to bed -the pointless social outlets only serving to highlight my own inadequacies...

...until tomorrow, where something, someone, can distract me again between the stages of lacking.

Weekend Frenzies

This week was tight, Monday to Friday, all 5 days were tough for me! I was busy meeting friends who'll soon be moving out of the city, biding them farewell and promising to meet again, packing up my own bags planning to move out next month, studying for an upcoming test and also promising a few close buddies to meet, have fun and make merry this weekend, assuming it's one of the last couple of ones I've got with them before I leave the city!

When I was a student at school and college, there was nothing like a 'weekend', in fact I've always hated holidays then. This recent buzzword- weekend  has been very popular in the West where five days are devoted to only work and a two day break which is usually a Saturday and Sunday. With the onslaught of MNCs in India, everyone has adapted to the concept of the weekend rather effortlessly.

The weekend concept seems appropriate for people who work and require respite from their work, hence a two day break to cool their heels, but surprisingly every age bracket seems to have appropriated the 'weekend' phrase that the word has become pretty ubiquitous. Once Thursday dawns, the familiar 'What plans for the weekend' starts making the rounds not only in offices but even in schools, colleges, universities, supermarkets and other places. What is amusing is that even students in the hostel await their weekends as if they've slogged their ass off in the week. I understand that students also work hard but there's a lot of difference between the work done by them and a professional. The student has nothing else but studies peppered along with some love stories, games and hobbies. This student who has not a care in the world looks forward to the weekend!

I received a few messages yesterday (Thursday) wishing me "Have a happy weekend" and "What's the weekend plan?" as if the weekend is what I have been waiting for. Maybe weekends do matter to hardworking individuals who look forward to the Saturdays and Sundays, but not me! The weekend concept has become so very compulsory that some poor individuals who work on Saturdays and Sundays are made to look very very sorry since they literally don't have the weekend! Now how can anyone not have the weekend! Funny, right.

A weekend is common for everyone but not working in the weekends is not common for everyone. The so-called weekend people seem to possess a frenzy of somehow making the weekend interesting. If anyone says, "I will stay home, watch television and be lazy",  the weekendor says, "Why waste your weekend?" as if the weekend is a commodity! One looks forward to the weekend but when finally the week actually ends, there is the question of not wasting it, you've been working the whole week, the weekend's meant for rest buddies!

Well, well, coming back to me, I know I've things to do, go sign an attendance sheet awaiting my presence in the exam hall this Sunday, meet buddies, complete a few undone tasks, make up for a few things, rub off all the bad episodes, make a list of my favorite hangouts to visit, take a snap shot of everything I loved over here, shop, pack up and move out for which I've got just three weeks, but I don't wanna rush and spoil things coz I'm tired and I wanna revive!

I'd rather have a Sundae and try not to hop out tanning in the sun, give way for a couple of drinks and eats with friends this Sunday, coz I'm tired and weak this week(end)! Have fun!

Remember When

Remember when I was young and so were you
And time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows and walked the walk

Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born

And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet

Was the music we danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old

Now lookin' back, it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are, where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when

Remember when we said when we turned gray

When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when                                                         Alan Jackson

I sing this to myself every morning and probably every night before going to bed!

A Sincere Hostage

We all see people living in and around our extent of existence, but has anybody experienced the irritability caused when an intruder jumps from that area of existence into your personal space?
Very well then, I might want to give you company and share a dreadful experience of an unwanted intruder in my life!
There are people who are always busy, nah, not with their own lives, but with others'. They're always too desperate to find a way into a happy going individual just like a dog struggling it's way through the neighbor's fence. And yeah, the after effect is always painful, either the neighbor has to fence his property again or the intruding dog gets trapped or is bit by the one guarding it!
There's a dog, a stray one, but a pretty good pet of the whole neighborhood that tossed all the tasty tidbits at it, played go-fetch, cared for it and walked a dog walk every evening! The dog in turn guarded it's street and barked at strangers, and licked the little kids on their way home from school. But do all dogs stay the same? Faithful and friendly? Let's see.

One day this the dog got through the fence, but now what? There's no watch dog! The intruder had it's chance and started digging everywhere it thought it should, all for fun, not knowing what might lay beneath!
A sniff and a horse shoe!
An inch more across and an old wooden log!
A little scrabble and then a on old cracked plate!
Dig in more doggy. There it is- A bone!
The dog has got a bone, isn't that enough for a dog? But no, don't forget, this is an intruder, not just a dog! This nasty thing now starts digging the whole garden till the greens and the browns are exchanged. Not an inch stays where it was.
The discovered items are lined up across the fence, with dirty dribble all over the bone, the dog now barks at  the master as it lays on the freshly dug mud!

Was this all about the dog? No, this is about the hostage! Here goes the rest-
The master throws a slice of bread and walks in as the silly quadruped grabs it and growled for more. The master fed it more of dog food and led it through the door.
This was a dog that this master could lean on, trust and hence he found his way for a nap! The master was now this nasty dog and the hostage had no idea that this intruder brat was up to no good!
Within minutes this sincere hostage was left scarred and torn all over like his garden.

This sincere hostage has been left with scars only for letting this intruder go it's way!

My sincere apology to all those wonderful pets, I love you, never meant to steal your faithful friendly caring image- A dog has always been a man's best friend; but mind you, stray intruders like the one above can turn out to be the most vicious predator!
Here's a warning for you intruder, and for all the others struggling their way in, if I find you digging through my space ever again, I'm not going to be a sincere hostage anymore!

The Teen Cry!!! Please Don't Die!!

Always we hear the cry from teenagers, "Where do we go?", "What do we do?"
"My answer is this: Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study the lessons. Your town doesn't owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun." "The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in sickness and lonely again. In other words, grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and get a backbone, not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It's too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. That someday is now and that somebody is you!"
John Tapene, Principal, Northland College, New Zealand!!

Every morning I wake up and read the newspaper that proudly publishes the achievements of the youngest blood of its land, kids promising to become the bright future of India. Every time these teens from high school come out with discoveries and inventions I wonder if I could bring our the same level of creativity in me a decade back in time!

But in the squeezed columns of the same I also read about suicides by teenagers, very well born and brought up, with loving families and lots of friends, and all we find is a suicide note stating the causes like mental harassment, failure in examinations and tests, social ditching, joblessness etc etc etc...
A suicide note doesn't make up for the precious and young lives lost in a bottle of rat kill!!!
Work hard, try till you succeed, your failure shouldn't be your last attempt, and your last attempt should be the one till you succeed! Let not your failure be the last thing to happen to you!

Just because somebody you like doesn't feel the same for you doesn't mean you've got nobody on the Earth who'd still love you for what you are. Love yourselves, your life and the people around you. Think of them, your loved ones, your mum and dad, your friends, the way they'll be left broken when they hear you're no more...

Think of those who have nobody to care for and nobody to love, they're still living, making their every minute worthwhile for the world to notice, doing something different. It could be making a reaper nobody thought of earlier, or it could be another social worker helping the ones who really need it, it could be another Benjamin Franklin or another Mother Teresa out there... Remember that all the people now known to the world are known only because of their deeds but not for what they felt or how they lived!

Foregoing sleep and giving up a fancy lifestyle isn't an easy task. What do you think those soldiers and fighters out there on the borders of the nation are guarding it for? To let young blood be shed by inspired suicides? No, they want you alive and working and successful, hoping that someday another Curie, Miller, Archimedes or an Einstein shall come out in the open showing his fellow humans a new way to live life...

If it can be that one thought, that one incident or that one person that inspires you to give up on life, why can there be millions of the same to encourage you to live in a better, happier and more successful way? There are many good reasons in everybody's life one can be proud of and I'm sure even a couple of them are enough to make you breathe till your nineties!!
Had your parents done the same thing before you, you'd still be a sperm or an egg of the future!! Live!!

Down The Memory Lane!!!

I was reading another blog lately that had a lot of posts randomly imaging the author's memories... And  I found myself pondering my oldest memories, trying to choose one which I longed to live again...
There it was- A day from the lovely early 90's, my childhood!
I saw a garden in front of a house while a three year old me sat in the cozy lap of Nanaji at sunset during summer! Our house was near the beach, I've been living there since I was only a couple of months old till I grew up to be a smart teen!

I can still remember the last rays of the sun for the day falling on us as I sat looking up at Nanaji, wondering how beautifully his old white skin glowed in the sun, and then he'd smile down at me, rub my cheeks, pull my nose, or tap on my head and say, "Eat your ice cream little sweetheart, it's melting fast!"

After I had finished gobbling down the ice cream he'd take me around, show me his garden, water the plants and cut the weeds, and I'd dive my fingers into the mud hoping to get another distinctly shaped stone or a colorful shell to add to my collection, I still remember naming and decorating the box I had put aside for it, "The Precious Box" (Mwahaha)!!

All this time while he'd be busy with his dear plants, I'd gaze at the setting sun that no longer burnt my eyes, kill some ants (I pity all those creatures that fell into my water trap, I was a bad naughty kid back then), feel the breeze that was fresh off the sands of the beach and see the birds flying up in the sky wondering if I could ever fly like them or the superman or the batman till a low lying plane would scare me off with it's rumbling noise and I'd jump straight into grandpa's lap!!

After all this I'd sit watching Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry stuffing in dinner which was always one of my favorites-there would be cutlets, Maggi, sandwiches, pizza, the famous Mumbaiya Pav Bhaji, even Vegetable Khichdi or anything special that'd come to mind would be on my table- all homemade, and Nina made them all very healthy for me, adding lots of veggies and desi ghee to her dishes without compromising with the taste (my masi is a great cook).
I must say I was pretty pampered back then...!
I now know that every single memory in my head, that which I miss the most is going to be one of those moments in Mumbai, the whole of my childhood!

I miss those days, and I miss Nanaji the most, Mr.Nihalchand Shah, your world still has your seat unoccupied, and vacant it shall ever stay! Love you grandpa!

Agua de Coco!! Sipping Life The Right Way!!

Coconut, everything about it just sets me in, the smell, the taste and the after drink relief, it's just what I'm addicted to... Hot springs, spa, sun bath, meditation, sleep and coconuts, you can't just let go of a chance to revive your beauty and health when it's one of these.  A life saving drink in summers! Something that I'd list right next to the nectar of immortality is "Narial Pani"...

We all love drinking coconut water, don't we? That hard fibrous fruit (why do we call em 'tender coconuts' when all that they can do is break a head when hit? Lol), hung up so high on a tree, can be so delicious...

"Narial Pani Oye, Narial!!!" is what I hear every morning right while I have breakfast in my room...
Carrying a huge heap of coconuts he cycles right from 7 a.m. in the morning till it's the Tea-Time-4 p.m., shouting his lungs out so that his voice reaches every house on that street in Rajinder Nagar.

Like everyday, we hear him coming and one of us (I stay with my friends) hurries down to get a few coconuts as he chops off the choicest of fruits guaranteeing us a glass of sweet water each with lots of cocomeat (malai) in every fruit!!

It was like everyday and I rushed my friend down, but within a minute she was back with a news, the only narial walah in the locality was hurt, he had cut his thumb accidentally and was bleeding profusely! I grabbed some cotton and dettol and we went back to cover his poor little finger that had lost enough blood by then.
We cleansed his finger and put a bandage, and also cleaned his chopper lest it proves to be infectious to others who buy coconuts from him. Knowing that he was in no mood to visit a doc or get himself vaccinated for tetanus we asked him to do so, paid him for the same and began to leave.

He was very thankful to us, but I couldn't help myself from noticing that a few people had gathered around watching us as if we were doing something we weren't supposed to.
I wondered if anything that we did a few minutes back wasn't right... And I realized that something indeed was out of place, it was the society, the thoughts that it perceived, and the boundaries and limits that it had set for itself.
They stood there staring at us until we left only because we had helped a street vendor, had it been a celeb or a star or a billionaire getting hurt on the way, this same group would have rushed to help.
If we want to adopt the western culture, we must accept and adopt it's attitude as well.
But whatever, Agua de Coco, I'm loving you...!!!
We had hardly stepped in before which our lips reached for the straw and started sipping life in!!! Wow, it was worth all the rush and trouble!!!

Getting started!!

This is where all our lives change, mine did, and it does, everyday!!
There's always that first time when you're scared of laying down the first step, or taking one off the road. that tiny nanosecond when you heart beats hard and you're not sure of how it's going to end, or fear if it's ever going to start as expected. Things seem to be very simple and easy once done, but before that it's a heavy rush of adrenaline!!

Those little things and I'm now with lots of brand new experiences and lots to share....
When I imagine how I felt just before writing this down, I find it really funny, but it's not, it's fun, and now I'm looking forward to work on this in future!!
Hope you get to read interesting things in here...
